Online shopping is reducing the foot traffic in malls, so malls would be better off getting smaller and including more experiences than just shopping -- theaters, bars, restaurants. I go to colma or masonic instead. Children's Compounding Pharmacy What to do at Napa if you're not a big wine guy? Now both the serramonte and colma targets are great, although I prefer Colma if Target is my only destination.
Of which there are 20k traveling in every weekday. They should turn part of the mall into an evening spot like how serramonte is. Stones is dead after 8. Put in a late night foodie paradise like they do in Japan and everyone will come.
City is so dead that it's disappointing. They couldn't even put apts on the edge of the parking lots in It's honestly so crazy that neighbors can block projects like this. This is San Francisco, a major city. It's not some nature preserve that can't be changed. Neighborhood groups like Calle 24 and the Duboce Triangle Association rule this town and the supervisors who work for them.
As long as the city only allows voters to vote for the supervisors in their local district, this will never change. People gotta have a place to go out to eat, drink, and buy stuff like groceries. Build the housing on top or adjacent.
If you have all that stuff nearby, then there's less need to have a car. Malls are changing though. Online shopping is reducing the foot traffic in malls, so malls would be better off getting smaller and including more experiences than just shopping -- theaters, bars, restaurants.
Then you can use all that extra space and create a cool place to live nearby. We need tons of housing. Build, build, build, build, build. The people who need places to live don't care if it's next to a mall, they just want affordable housing.
It's not a video game, lives have to be lived in whatever you "build, build, build". Broseph, right across the road from Stonestown is an affluent-ass neighbourhood. Don't know why you're acting like it's a disaster site. For anyone else, look on street view if you can't go in person down Stonecrest Dr starting from Juniperro Serra Boulevard. Look to your right as you go. That place is rich, mang. I mean, I'd prefer no one messed with that mall because it has a Target and a Trader Joe's that I like, but to act like the place is terrible?
Putting homes in the mall itself is what we're talking about. It wouldn't be Ingleside, or Balboa Terrace. Stonetown isn't an actual neighborhood. Likewise, the closest apartment towers aren't wealthy. Some of the surrounding area is nice, some of it's middle class and always has been, not rich. You clearly don't know the area as well as you think and the attempt to bluff like you know the city because you shop at a Trader Joe's there doesn't fool anyone.
Mate, they're on the fucking streets. They would probably be better off in housing next to a nuclear dump. We aren't talking about housing for the homeless, or turning Nordstroms into a navigation center, or SRO.
Who goes into affordable housing? People who can't afford homes at market rate. Where do they live? More housing being built is better for everyone, lowering rent for all but luxury apts. No, it's not for everyone. It's still just for the people who can afford what's being built.
Stonestown already has enough shopping. The mall needs some nightlife, maybe add a bowling alley, beer hall, or a performing arts center, something that would give people more reasons to come here than just to shop. Maybe even go the ways of Santa Monica Place and remove the roof and open up the mall.
I feel sad for the employees being let go, but perhaps they can get with the times and put some other good venues that attract people. I mean, I'm not wild about the movie theatre being put in at Macy's, but even thats more exciting then, well, Macys. There is no Nordstrom Rack at Stonestown. Perhaps you're thinking of the Serramonte location.
Stonestown used was the place to be in the 90's and early 's. Back then when they had that Borders bookstore where the gym is at now.
Growing up here and living in Daly City before Westifield downtown, it was always a choice between Serramonte or Stonestown. Now its the other way around. Crazy to see all the new tenants that Serramonte has attracted. Borders used to be where target is at right now.
Serramontes lease is cheaper. Just sucks getting into it from south. Used to see so many families there. That Tower Records was where all the musicians come to town. Still remember meeting Jin there after his successes on and Park. Before Century 21 opened, UA Twins was where we all went to catch the newest movies and the lines would stretch super far. Props to Serramonte and what they did to their mall.
Revitalizing Stonestown would be awesome and getting more late night food spots may do it justice. Trader Joe's is always busy. Stop opening overpriced retails and it won't keep happening. I'm still sad Borders is gone. Just kidding, I have no idea what they were trying to prove with this comment. Transplant or not, people know how to use Google maps. Weekends were better but also pretty slow. It's empty and carries a lot of mid-market which doesn't seem to be consistent with the neighborhood it serves.
That mall is just a huge waste of space. It'd be better to tear it down and build housing on that space. Traffic on 19th Avenue is already terrible, building housing would require years of disruption on 19th Avenue and streets surrounding the build zone to put in new plumbing, extra wiring for additional electrical needs, etc.
People from most of the city think the west end is too far of a commute and with the current west portal tunnel project transit to and from the area will be impacted for a while.
